Self-Guided Javelina



The majority of the javelina on the Reservation are located on the farwest end. Locating these grey ghosts of the Southwest is most often the hardest part of the hunt. Javelina in the area are scattered over a very wide area of the Reservation. Season dates normally run from mid-January through mid February. All these hunts are self guided. Permits are issued on a first-come first-serve basis beginning the first week in December.
SEASON DATES: January 17 through February 15, 2009
LEGAL JAVELINA/BAG LIMIT: Any Javelina. One (1) per hunter per season.
NUMBER OF PERMITS: 25
PACKAGE COST: $100.00 permit cost, plus $5.00 application fee
PERMIT AVAILABILITY: Tags will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis beginning December 1, 2008, at the W&ORD Office in Whiteriver.
LEGAL TAKING DEVICE: Any legal firearm bow and arrow as described in section R1.A of the WMAT Hunting Regulations.

METHODS OF LEGALLY TAKING GAME

Section R1.A - BIG GAME except ELK, may be legally taken with the following weapons:

i.     Center fire rifles, muzzle-loading rifles, and all other rifles using black Powder or pyrodex.

ii.    Center fire handguns and handguns of a caliber not les than .44 Magnum

iii.    Shotguns, not less than 20 gauge, shooting slugs or #4 shot (minimum).

iv.    Bows having a standard pull or forty or more pounds, using arrows with metal broadheads no less than 7/8-inch width cutting edge.

v.     Javelina may additionally be taken with .22 rimfire magnum rifles and 5mm rimfire rifles.
