BOATING PERMITS & REGULATIONSMOTORIZED FLOAT TUBES or RAFTS now require boat permits for use on the reservation. Non-motorized, single-person rafts or float tubes still do not require a boat permit for use on Reservation waters.
All watercraft operated on the Fort Apache Indian reservation require a valid Reservation Watercraft Permit. For the purpose of registration only, "watercraft" shall not include nonmotorized inflatable watercraft which are 10 feet or less in length. Therefore, float tubes will not require a permit.
PERMITS:
Daily Watercraft Permits or an Annual Watercraft Sticker/Permit may be purchased from any permit dealer (see Permit Dealers). Reservation watercraft users must have a valid Daily or Annual watercraft permit in their possession at all times. Watercraft Permits shall be valid only during the calendar year for which they are issued; and apply only to the watercraft to which they are issued. Annual Watercraft Stickers (issued together with annual Watercraft Permits) must be placed on the front left side of the craft.REGULATIONS:
Life preservers are required for all watercraft passengers while boating on all Reservation lakes. With the exception of Sunrise Lake, watercraft are restricted to the use of a single electronic motor only. Gasoline motors of 10 h.p. or less may be operated on Sunrise Lake only. Gas operated motors are otherwise prohibited except for law enforcement officials while on duty or boats operated by emergency personnel. Sunrise Lake gasoline motor users are required to have an operable fire extinguisher on board the watercraft. Watercraft launching is restricted to designated lauching areas only.
