This river is excellent for smallmouth bass and channel catfish from the confluence of the White River east to the Reservation boundary. Upper parts of the Black are also good for wild brown, Apache and rainbow trout. Access is rugged in most areas. Black River crossing is the only spot accessible by two wheel drive. Fishing is best after high runoff in the spring.
Black River and Salt River access for camping, fishing, hiking and general recreation now requires a Special use Permit. Seasonal and annual access restrictions/closures are now in place for portions of the upper Black River and lower Salt River.
SPECIAL USE EXCEPTION: Those holding valid Tribal hunting permits or Salt River Rafting permits.
