2006 –Record Book Bulls

The results are in and… it doesn’t get much better than this!  With the conclusion of the 2006 season, the White Mountain Apache Tribe’s world-renowed trophy elk hunting program, a total of 6 clients harvested Rocky Mountain Bull Elk having antlers that exceed that minimum scores needed to qualify them for entry into the All Time B & C Record Book. Of the 6 B&C bulls taken during this year’s trophy hunt three were “Typical” and three were “Non-Typical”. Three of the bulls grossed above the 400-point mark! The West End Camp near the town of Cibecue was the big winner in 2006, with 3 hunters taking bulls that potentially will surpass B&C record-book scoring plateaus.  The Sunrise Camp took 1 record-book bull and the Maverick Camp took the other two.  Howard Gilmore and his guide Preston “Jeep” Bourke harvested the largest bull (413 gross – 403 net) from the West End Camp. According to the tribal biologists, overall results of the White Mountain Apache 2006 trophy elk season reflect a camp-wide average “gross” B&C score for all bulls harvested of 350 points! The Tribe’s Wildlife & Outdoor Recreation Division provide fully-outfitted trophy elk hunts out of three separate camps in the 1.6 million acre Fort Apache Indian Reservation during the mid-September to early-October time-frame, which coincides with the peak of the elk rut.
